WPBN: Two charitable organizations in Arizona are providing assistance to horses who were compelled to leave southern California due to the ongoing fires.
The organizations One Step Wild Burros, Mustang Rescue, and Horses Help are working together to raise money, gather gifts, and load a truck with supplies in preparation for their trip to California as scheduled on January 17.
According to Stacie Thomas, the owner and creator of One Step Wild Burros and Mustang Rescue, this is not the first time that the organization has provided a helping hoof to horses and other animals that are desperate for assistance.
During the Malibu fire that occurred a few years ago, Thomas was approached by an equine center seeking assistance. After soliciting assistance from the community, they were able to drive a trailer out to provide assistance.
Thomas has stated that this time around, the organizations would be traveling to four different areas where animals that have been evacuated are being housed, one of which is the Rose Bowl Stadium.
“We were able to help so many animals and people. We actually even got surrendered a little Chihuahua dog to come home and get adopted and everything,” Thomas stated. “It was very heartwarming.
According to Gregg Goodman, the Chief Executive Officer of Horses Help, the organization has long served as a point of transportation for horses in the Valley.
“This is a good first step into supporting some really tremendous people trying to do a good thing,” Goodman stated.
From the perspective of one of Horses Help’s volunteers, Crystal Haire, horses who have been compelled to evacuate have requirements that are more comparable to those of people than one might initially believe.

“People like to complicate animal husbandry, and it’s really not, truly. Most topical first aids for people is usable for horses,” Haire stated. “If you’re going to bandage your kid up with it, it can be used on a horse too, truly.”

Both organizations that are not-for-profit have stated that there is a requirement for supplies for other kinds of animals as well, including cats, dogs, chickens, goats, and pigs.
The initial shipment of trucks is scheduled to arrive in California on January 17th. As a result of the possibility of additional supply runs, it is important to keep a watch on social media for additional information.
