Las Vegas Businesses and Hotels Provide Aid to Californians Affected by Displacement

WPBN: Residents of California who are attempting to flee to Nevada will find assistance waiting for them in Las Vegas.

The people who have been displaced as a result of the wildfires in Southern California are receiving assistance from individuals, restaurants, and organizations that are not-for-profit.

One of these companies is the Refined Restaurant Group, which has informed 8 News Now that the images of destruction prompted them to take immediate action.

“When we heard the news, it was never really a question of if we were going to help. It was more of a question of how can we help,” Angela Valdez, senior marketing coordinator of Refined Restaurant Group, stated.

For example, Cafe Lola and 3 Little Chicks are two of the restaurants that fall under its overall umbrella. World Central Kitchen, which is delivering meals to first responders and victims of the wildfires, will receive a portion of their sales from Thursday through Sunday that they will donate to the organization.

“I think that it’s been an emotional time here in our office. One just trying to think about how we can send our prayers and good thoughts towards them, feeling helpless like there’s nothing we can do here,” Jessica Gettle, development manager of Refined Restaurant, stated.

In Southern California, hotels are becoming increasingly full as the fires continue to burn houses. Nevertheless, Resorts World Las Vegas is providing a discount of 35 percent on hotel prices for residents of California who travel to Las Vegas for business or pleasure excursions.

“I checked in a couple of groups, some friends from LA who were coming in last night and again they’re dealing with something that they probably never thought they were going to have to deal with in their life,” Ronn Nicolli, Resorts World’s chief marketing officer, stated. “They’re essentially leaving their homes, trying to grab what belongings they can, putting them in a car and driving that four plus hours to Las Vegas.”

Beginning on January 9 and continuing through January 17, Resorts World is providing a special discount at its Hilton and Conrad buildings. It is required that reservations be made over the phone at the number (702) 676-7036, and those who are interested must mention the LA Support Rate.

The American Red Cross will get $700,000 of the one million dollars that Wynn Resorts has declared it will donate to the relief efforts stemming from the wildfires.

The Southern Nevada chapter of the American Red Cross has dispatched volunteers to the city of Los Angeles. It was said by Rachel Flanigan, the executive director of the nonprofit organization, that they are now in need of contributions of both money and blood.

“If you have friends and family in the area, and they’re asked to evacuate, [ask] them to evacuate and not stay and film the fires,” Flanigan stated. “Don’t do those things because the vehicles are starting to be a problem.”
