According to the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), deputies were dispatched to a home in Hamburg after the agency received a report of shots fired and a car being hit by gunfire. Together with the aid of the Mills County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol, deputies from the Mills County Sheriff’s Office were successful in taking Hamburg resident Sonya Holmes, 37, into custody at her residence.
During an altercation, deputies suspect Holmes fired a pistol, sending a bullet into an occupied vehicle. She is facing charges of attempted murder, going armed to conduct a crime, domestic abuse with a weapon, and reckless use of a firearm causing property damage. All of these charges include the use of a weapon against a family member. There is a possibility of death by execution attached to each of these offenses.
Before Holmes makes her initial appearance before a court in Fremont County, she will remain incarcerated without the opportunity to post bond.
