Smash-and-Grab Burglary Spree: Florida Man Hits St. Pete Publix, Police Say


WPBN: The police say that a burglary suspect went on a smash-and-grab spree throughout St. Petersburg, and as a result, he is currently being held in custody.

Between the dates of January 2 and January 5, 2025, the defendant, who has been named as Cory Kendrick, is suspected of perpetrating a string of burglaries that involve smash-and-grab techniques.

Based on the information provided by the St. Petersburg Police Department, Kendrick’s activities were captured on surveillance footage, which ultimately led to his identification and subsequent arrest.

On the morning of January 4, at around 9:45 a.m., surveillance footage captures Kendrick pedaling a bicycle through the parking lot of a Publix store situated at 1700 34th Street North.

According to the police, Kendrick has been observed breaking the windows of multiple automobiles, searching through them, and stealing stuff from numerous of them. Further, the authorities stated that during the event, the Publix site alone was responsible for the destruction of eleven vehicles.

Kendrick was observed by a law enforcement officer traveling on a bicycle in the vicinity of the 1100 block of Baum Avenue the following morning.

After recognizing him from the security tape, the police made an attempt to confront and arrest him. According to the allegations, Kendrick attempted to leave, but the officer who was nearby immediately apprehended him.

Kendrick was related to numerous additional burglaries in the vicinity, including five burglaries that occurred on January 2 in the parking lot of a dentist’s office located at 3238 4th Street North, according to the findings of further investigation conducted by private investigators.

Two firearms were also found by the police during the course of their investigation.

Eleven counts of vehicle burglary, one count of armed vehicle burglary (for stealing a firearm), one count of credit card fraud, one count of credit card theft, one count of unlawful possession of a personal identification card, one count of obstruction, one count of carrying a concealed firearm, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm are among the charges that have been brought against Kendrick.

During the course of the past month, Kendrick was also a suspect in a number of other crimes that were connected to the one he was suspected of committing. As the investigation continues, it is possible that additional charges will be handed down.
