Ex-Teacher Shelley Leatherwood Serve 30 Days On Jail Work Crew After Sending Sexually Explicit Text Messages To A Minor Student

A former Mountain View High School teacher, Shelly Leatherwood, was sentenced to serve 30 days on jail work crew after sending sexually explicit text messages to a 17-year-old student.

Shelley Leatherwood Pleads Guilty

According to an article by Jessica Prokop, a former teacher at Mountain View High School, Shelly Leatherwood, was sentenced in Clark County Superior Court last Thursday to serve 30 days on a jail work crew for sending sexually explicit text messages to a minor student. A 46-year-old, Shelley Leatherwood, pleaded guilty on August 9 to first-degree voyeurism by way of an “in re Barr” plea. It means Shelly Leatherwood pleaded guilty to the lesser related charge she didn’t commit to avoid the risk of conviction on a greater offense.

Shelley Leatherwood was originally charged with felony communicating with a 17-year-old student for immoral purposes and attempted first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor. She was no longer employed by Evergreen Public Schools. Shelley Leatherwood was a member of the Career and Technical Education department. She also teaches animal sciences.

Shelley Leatherwood was previously hired in September 2018. She is currently unemployed. Shelley Leatherwood was sentenced to 1-3 months in prison and 12 months of community custody. Shelley Leatherwood will receive credit for 2 days already served. She asks forgiveness to her family and the victim. Also, she has to register as a sex offender and undergo treatment.
