The Tragic Death Of Gillie Da Kid’s Son “YNG Cheese”

In a recently published article published by Distractify, the rapper Gillie Da Kid from Philadelphia is renowned for creating both hits and headlines. He typically makes headlines for his feuds with rappers like Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, and Joe Budden, but in July 2023, when his son unexpectedly passed away, he was in the spotlight for a completely different reason.

Like Gillie, David “YNG Cheese” Spady, his son, was a rapper before he tragically passed away. There are rumors about what actually happened to him, but none of them have been confirmed.

Gillie Da Kid became one of the several parents who had to bury their own children due to gun violence in July 2023.

The case has no named suspects as of the time of this writing, according to authorities. However, rumors spread that David was a victim of an ongoing gang war. Someone wrote on Reddit, “According to some people, there was a ‘ticket’ out on YNG Cheese and he was set up.”

“I know the area [where] he got killed — it’s a real real bad neighborhood,” they continued. “What Gillie Da Kid is going through is beyond what I can fathom. Tonight, I’m going to pray to God.”

However, it has not been verified that the homicide was gang-related. YNG Cheese is sadly just one of the 296 people killed by gun violence in the city in 2023. Gillie was silent about his loss after YNG Cheese passed away—at least, not until recently.

Gillie Da Kid Recalled The Days After His Son Passed Away

In a recently published article of the VIBE, Gillie Da Kid opened up about what happened for the first time in an interview with The Pivot. He recalled the days when his son passed away and the difficult situation of preparing his son’s body for burial.

The rapper from Philadelphia, who follows the Islamic faith, had to not only bury his son quickly after his death but also cleanse his body.

In a recent interview with The Pivot Podcast, Gillie Da Kid described the “worst and best day” he had prepared for his son’s funeral as it all started to sink in. He also saw it as a turning point in his “becoming a man” process.

He emotionally said, “I had to wash his body, that had to be the worst time. But it was also the best since that day I matured into a man. Up to that point, I was a little-a** boy. I used to think that I was already a man because I took care of my family and did manly things like pay my bills, you know what I mean.”

He added, “It was a gift and a curse,” as a tear rolled down his cheek. “It was both a good and a bad thing because it was very painful to see your son lying there, stiff and cold, but I know I sent him off right, you know what I mean, and in Islam, sending someone off right is a big deal.”
