Denver, CO – A sunny and mild Christmas Eve across Colorado will give way to potential light snow in the mountains later this week. Travelers heading through higher elevations are urged to prepare for changing conditions starting Thursday night.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), temperatures today will remain above normal, with highs reaching the 50s in Denver and the surrounding plains. Foothill areas will see highs in the 40s, while mountain regions will stay cooler, with daytime highs in the 30s. Tonight, temperatures will dip to the low 30s in the plains, with frost likely in the mountains.

On Christmas Day, the weather will stay mostly mild, with highs in the low 50s for Denver and a mix of sun and clouds. However, a 20% chance of rain will develop Wednesday night, transitioning into a rain-snow mix in higher elevations Thursday into Friday. Areas like the I-70 corridor near mountain passes could see light snow accumulations, which may cause hazardous travel conditions.

The five-day outlook suggests a return to sunny skies by Saturday, with highs rebounding into the mid-50s statewide. Still, drivers in mountain areas should remain cautious through late Thursday.

Plan holiday travel with extra time and check local forecasts before heading out, especially on mountain roads.
