Missing Hawaii photographer Hannah Kobayashi found safe after mysterious disappearance

Dramatic Conclusion to Month-Long Family Ordeal

In a dramatic turn of events, Hannah Kobayashi, the 30-year-old Hawaii photographer who mysteriously disappeared while traveling to New York, has been found safe, her family announced on Wednesday.

Kobayashi’s disappearance began after missing a connecting flight to New York and becoming stranded in Los Angeles. Her situation took an unexpected twist when she was captured on camera crossing into Mexico, leading to her being classified as a voluntary missing person by authorities.

Family’s relief and gratitude

Speaking through their attorney, Sara Azar, Hannah’s sister Sydni Kobayashi and mother Brandi Yee expressed their emotions. “We are incredibly relieved and grateful that Hannah has been found safe,” they stated. The family also requested privacy to heal from what they described as “an unimaginable ordeal.”

Lingering mysteries remain

Despite the positive resolution, significant questions persist about Kobayashi’s disappearance. Law enforcement remains uncertain about the circumstances of her location and return.

Lt. Doug Oldfield from the Los Angeles Police Department’s missing persons unit confirmed the notification of Kobayashi’s location but provided minimal details.

“We have not seen her and at this point, we have no reason to compel her to see us,” Oldfield said. “It’s a big news story so she may decide to come with a lawyer, but she is not obligated to speak to us. We’ll see what happens next.”

Before her discovery, the family was reportedly investigating the possibility of an immigration marriage scam being connected to her disappearance. However, no concrete details have emerged to substantiate these claims.

Tragic backdrop: Father’s loss

The search for Hannah was overshadowed by a tragic development involving her father, Ryan Kobayashi. The 58-year-old, who had traveled to Los Angeles to assist in the search, reportedly died by suicide during this difficult period.

Ongoing investigation

While Kobayashi has been found safe, authorities have not disclosed her current location or the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and return. Customs and Border Protection may play a crucial role in providing further information.

“When she crosses back, she’ll show as a missing person,” Oldfield explained, indicating that official protocols are still being followed.

Family’s message of gratitude

In a poignant conclusion to their statement, the family expressed profound thanks to those who supported them. “We want to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us during this difficult time. Your kindness and concern have meant the world to us,” they said.

As the story continues to unfold, the public remains eager to understand the full context of Hannah Kobayashi’s mysterious disappearance and safe return.
