In a startling act of retaliation, a man in Sandy, Utah, took drastic action after being denied a refund for what he alleged was a defective vehicle, crashing his newly purchased Subaru Outback straight through the dealership’s storefront.
Michael Murray, 35, purchased the Subaru from Tim Dahle Mazda Southtowne on Monday morning, only to discover what he believed were significant mechanical issues with the vehicle. Describing the car as a “lemon,” Murray returned to the dealership seeking a refund.
Dealership stands firm
Dealership management rejected Murray’s return request, pointing to the “as-is” terms of the sale. This decision would prove to be a critical moment in an escalating confrontation.
According to Sandy Police reports Murray didn’t simply accept the rejection. He explicitly threatened to drive the car through the dealership’s front door if his money wasn’t refunded. At approximately 4 PM, he followed through on this threat in a shocking act of vandalism.

The rampage caused an estimated $10,000 in property damage. Miraculously, despite seven employees being near the front door at the time, no injuries were reported.
