Jim Jordan Is Accused By A Georgia District Attorney

According to The Washington Post, in a stinging letter to the Republican chairman of the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, the prosecutor in the Atlanta area who has filed criminal charges against former president Donald Trump accused him of attempting to hinder the prosecution of Former President Donald Trump and 18 associates in a criminal racketeering investigation.

In the letter, Fulton County District Attorney Fani T. Willis accused Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) of engaging in “an unjustified and illegal intrusion into an open state criminal prosecution” with his own recent letter requesting records about the investigation and indictment of former President Donald Trump and his associates on charges, alleging that they illegally plotted to thwart former President Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss in Georgia.

Willis accused Jordan of lacking a “basic understanding of the law,” including the law relating to state sovereignty, in the nine-page letter. “Your attempt to invoke congressional authority to intrude upon and interfere with an active criminal case in Georgia is flagrantly at odds with the Constitution,” Willis wrote.

As per the report of  POLITICO, Jordan’s actions were labeled “offensive” and “misinformed” by Willis in his scathing, nine-page response, which also claimed that it is “clear that you lack a basic understanding of the law, its practice, and the ethical obligations of attorneys generally and prosecutors specifically.”

Jordan asked for details about Willis’ use of federal funds and any interactions her office may have had with the Justice Department or special counsel Jack Smith, who has accused Former President Donald Trump of wrongdoing in relation to both a case involving sensitive data as well as his behavior during the 2020 presidential election. Willis, though, said in her letter that Jordan’s “obvious purpose is to obstruct a Georgia criminal proceeding and to advance outrageous partisan misrepresentations.”

A representative for the chairman of the Judiciary Committee did not immediately respond to a request for comment over Willis’ letter, a copy of which POLITICO was able to get.

After Willis accused Former President Donald Trump and 18 friends of racketeering for attempting to sabotage President Joe Biden’s victory in the state during the 2020 election, there has been back and forth. Former President Donald Trump entered a not-guilty plea to the fourth batch of allegations he has faced in the past year late last month.
