San Jose Sharks move Macklin Celebrini, Ty Dellandrea off IR

SAN JOSE – The San Jose Sharks will activate forwards Macklin Celebrini and Ty Dellandrea off of injured reserve on Tuesday, coach Ryan Warsofsky said, and both are expected to play the Columbus Blue Jackets at SAP Center.

Celebrini and Dellandrea had been on injured reserve, but they practiced with the Sharks on Monday and declared themselves healthy enough to play. Celebrini had been on IR since Oct. 12 with a hip issue, and Dellandrea had been out since Oct. 26 when he blocked a shot with his hand.

Celebrini, who had two points in his NHL debut on Oct.10, skated on the Sharks’ top line Monday with Tyler Toffoli and Mikael Granlund, and Dellandrea was on the fourth line with Nico Sturm and Carl Grundstrom.

Celebrini, who first injured the hip during training camp, reaggravated the area early in the Sharks’ season-opening game against the St. Louis Blues. He played through it, but the Sharks lost the game 5-4 in overtime.

To make room on the 23-man roster for Celebrini and Dellandrea, the Sharks are expected to assign forwards Danil Gushchin and Ethan Cardwell back to their AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda.

Gushchin made the Sharks’ roster out of training camp after he had nine points in four preseason games but had just one point in 10 regular season games, averaging just over 12 minutes in ice time. Cardwell was recalled on Oct. 29 after Dellandrea was put on IR and did not have a point in three games. He averaged 12:44 in ice time per game.
