Saratoga recognizes Rep. Anna Eshoo for decades of service – The Mercury News

The city of Saratoga recognized outgoing U.S. Rep. Anna Eshoo with a commendation at an Oct. 15 city council meeting.

Eshoo has represented Congressional District 16 – which includes Saratoga – since she was first elected in 1992; she announced last November that she wouldn’t be running for re-election. Eshoo thanked Saratoga’s council members and staff for their friendships with her during her time in Congress.

“I hope that whoever succeeds me will get to have the satisfaction of working closely with each one of you,” Eshoo said to the council. “That person will be filled with pride to represent Saratoga.”

Eshoo told the council and meeting attendees to “never vote out of fear” and thanked them for taking care of the Saratoga community.

“I now have one of the great blessings of my life, and that is a little baby granddaughter. … I want her to be able to read this one day,” Eshoo said of the commendation.

Council members expressed gratitude for Eshoo’s leadership and her support for Saratoga and the congressional district at large.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking care of Saratoga for so long,” councilmember Tina Walia said. “You will be missed.”
