Reelect Kevin Wilk
to Walnut Creek council
When armed protesters challenged, obstructed and threatened pedestrians in front of the Planned Parenthood office in Walnut Creek, I attended the next City Council meeting. I asked that they take quick action to ensure safe passage near the Planned Parenthood facility.
I found that Kevin Wilk and the council had already taken steps to enforce the buffer zone around the facility and had convinced the local protesters to send the out-of-state armed “security” back to their cities of origin. To my knowledge, those dangerous activities have not been repeated.
Kevin Wilk is responsive to community needs and effective at finding solutions. I especially appreciate his activity on environmental issues and ensuring civility in public discourse.
I encourage you to join me in voting for Kevin Wilk.

Progressive DA throws
judicial system awry
The judicial system in the United States, while not perfect, is the best in the world because of the adversarial relationship between prosecution and defense.
Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price is certainly entitled to her opinions, but her viewpoint does not mesh with her duties as a DA. Let her fight all she wants for a liberal judiciary, but not from the pulpit of a prosecutor.
We need a tougher DA, so please recall Price and get offenders prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, which is, after all, the primary duty of a DA.

Bacon has character
to be Fremont mayor
Within politics, it’s essential to know the content of one’s character; I happen to know Vinnie Bacon’s.
I’m a lifelong Fremont resident and the vice president of the College Democrats of America. I met Vinnie during my run for Democratic National Committee membership. My hope was to be the youngest ever elected to it in the state, while also challenging my party’s positions on peaceful student protesters and youth voter outreach.
Most party officials wrote me off or felt they could talk down to me because of my age, but Vinnie wasn’t one of them. He lauded me for my accomplishments thus far and encouraged me to push forward. “Stick to your values,” he advised me.
My run was unsuccessful, but I learned a lot. One of those lessons was that Vinnie Bacon has the character fit to be mayor.

Test scores a failure
for our schools
Re: “California’s English and math test scores rise for first time since COVID, but pandemic learning loss evident” (Page A1, Oct. 11).
I see massive failure in the test scores shown in this article.
In science, 30.7% of students were at grade-level standard; math 35.5%; English 47%. These numbers are unacceptable to any society and our educators should resign in embarrassment. I am sure the first move by educators to fix this will be to lower the standard.
I saw no mention of a plan to get all of these scores to 80%, which should be a minimum. Parents should voice their dissatisfaction at all school meetings.
