Three shot at Oakland birthday party

OAKLAND — A 17-year-old girl and two 19-year-old men were wounded Saturday night when shooters opened fire on a group attending a birthday party in East Oakland, authorities said.

The three victims were in stable condition at a hospital. The girl lives in Richmond, and the men are from Newark and Berkeley, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 10:44 p.m. Saturday in the 8300 block of Bancroft Avenue, where a birthday party was being held at a residence, police said.

Dozens of partygoers, including the three who were wounded, were standing outside the residence when at least two people began shooting from 84th Avenue, authorities said.

Numerous shots were fired, triggering a gunshot detection system alert.

The shooters fled before police arrived. No other people were injured.

Police were working to determine a motive for the shooting and investigating whether the victims were the intended targets. Authorities did not release suspect information.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 510-238-3426. People with videos or photos that may assist the investigation can email them to [email protected].
