SAN JOSE — A woman who was struck by a car last week while she was crossing a street in downtown San Jose died several days later, police said Monday.
Police received a call that a car hit a pedestrian around 6:30 p.m. Oct. 1 in the area of South Fifth Street and East San Fernando Street.
According to authorities, a man was driving a 2018 Nissan Sentra sedan eastbound on East San Fernando Street whe he hit a woman who was walking across East San Fernando Street in a marked crosswalk. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
The woman was then taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries but later stabilized. On Oct. 4, the woman succumbed to her injuries and died. She was identified on Monday by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office as Sengqin Luo, an 87-year-old San Jose resident.
This is the 41st fatal collision and 41st traffic death in San Jose this year. This is also the 15th pedestrian death in the city this year.
