Texas’ Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will start disbursing payments for September in a maximum amount of $1,691 in less than a week.

Who Is Eligible to Receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Payments In Texas?

According to the published article in The Gazette, in the Lone Star State, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits are distributed over the first 10 working days of every month. The eligibility determination group number of a person determines the receipt date. The September wave of payments will start on September 1 after this month’s payments end on August 15.

A Lone Star Card, an electronic benefits transfer card, is loaded with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program payments. On the day of issuance, the funds are automatically placed into the card.

One’s eligibility for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is determined by household income. To qualify, a household must have a monthly income of no more than $1,869 for a one-person home and $4,465 for a five-person household.

According to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission website, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program payment levels in Texas vary depending on the number of people living in the family. Single households receive $281, while households with eight people receive $1,691. Families with more than eight members receive an extra $211 per person.

Texas Set Up Job Requirements for Beneficiaries Of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program

As per the report of the Washington Examiner, Texas has set up job requirements for beneficiaries of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program ages 16 to 59. Participants must be employed, actively looking for employment, or enrolled in an authorized work program. Recipients are prohibited from quitting their jobs without cause.

One of the numerous Great Society initiatives launched by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964 through the Food Stamp Act was the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. It is intended to complement low-income individuals’ food expenses and improve their nutrition.

You can only use Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits to buy food and nonalcoholic beverages. The money cannot be used for extravagances or non-food-related expenses.
