HAMILTON: The site of a violent event in which a youngster, age eight, suffered fatal injuries. The eight-year-old’s murder suspect made an appearance at Hamilton District Court yesterday. Police were called to a property in the Bader neighborhood around 5:20 p.m. on Sunday following complaints of a “violent altercation.”
Three individuals were admitted to the hospital, one of which was an eight-year-old child who was in critical condition. The boy’s wounds eventually claimed his life. A 37-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene and showed up in court today wearing a blue jumpsuit and folding his arms. As the man stood in the dock, the public gallery could hear him swearing and weeping, and several individuals were asked to leave the courtroom.
Child Condition was critical
The defendant did not enter a plea to the murder accusation and had name suppression. He was placed on remand to appear on September 17 at the Hamilton High Court. Emergency services were initially called to the scene of the incident in Anthony Crescent, Bader on Sunday at around 5:20 p.m.
Two adults were brought to Waikato Hospital with moderate to severe injuries after the child’s original condition was described as critical. Inspector Darrell Harpur announced earlier today, “Sadly, the boy died from his injuries yesterday evening.”
According to Harpur, police will stay in the area until they completed their investigation and proceeded to examine the scene. They were not looking for anyone else in connection with the event.
