South End, with a population of 34,304 people, is another Boston area with a high crime rate that is 169% higher than the state average. North Dorchester is also included as one of the worst neighborhoods in Boston because crime rates are higher than the national average on all counts, and the crime rate is rising, particularly in terms of property crime.

South Dorchester is another worst neighborhoods in Boston, with a total crime rate of 3,295 per 100,000 residents, 142% higher than the state average. Mattapan is also one of worst neighborhoods in Boston, with a violent crime rate that is more than 130 percent higher than the national average.

Back Bay, a historic waterfront area recognized for its Victorian brownstone mansions, comes next on the list as one of the worst neighborhoods in Boston, with a crime rate 141% higher than the state average. South Boston is next, which, while more residential than some areas, nonetheless has minor property and violent crime. Hyde Park is another high-crime area in Boston, with a 20% higher violent crime rate than the national average. Lastly, Jamaica Plain, with a population of 45,158, is listed as one of the worst neighborhoods in Boston, with a crime rate 36% higher than the Massachusetts average.

With so many reasons to live in Boston, one of the most common concerns is safety.
