According to the report of Fox 59, Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita is urging state legislators to collaborate with his office to address property tax issues in the upcoming legislative session. On Monday, Rokita highlighted the increasing number of Hoosiers seeking relief from high property taxes and stressed that their concerns should be taken seriously by lawmakers. His office is prepared to assist in drafting new legislation aimed at reducing property taxes and alleviating financial burdens for residents.

Rokita’s call for reform coincides with the growing competition in the gubernatorial race where candidates are proposing various property tax relief plans. Republican Mike Braun suggests capping property tax bills at 2% for seniors, low-income individuals, and families with children under 18. Democratic contender Jennifer McCormick advocates for a 10% cap on property tax increases and additional deductions for seniors and disabled veterans. Libertarian candidate Donald Rainwater proposes either a 7% cap on property taxes or a 1% cap for up to seven years.
