Florida is offering two tax holidays, one from August 31 to September 6 on storm supplies and another from September 1 to September 7 on tools and work gear which are expected to save residents around $440 million and promote readiness for hurricanes.

Florida’s Storm Preparation Tax Break

According to the report of Tampa bay, starting this Saturday, Floridians can take advantage of a special sales tax exemption on storm supplies. This “holiday” runs until September 6 allowing residents to purchase essential hurricane items like batteries, portable radios, generators, and pet supplies without paying sales tax. With forecasts predicting an active storm season and this tax break supports residents in their preparations. Earlier this year, there was also a tax holiday aimed at helping people get ready for storms ahead of time.

In addition to the storm preparation tax break, Florida will offer a “tool time” tax exemption from September 1 to September 7. This break covers the purchase of tools and work gear making items such as gloves, boots, ladders, and power tools tax-free. The initiative is designed to reduce costs on work equipment including hand tools, safety glasses, and protective coveralls and is expected to save shoppers about $19.8 million.

Florida’s Tax Holidays Offer Big Savings and Peace of Mind

So far this hurricane season has seen five named storms including Hurricane Debby which struck earlier this month. With more storms likely on the way, Florida’s Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie encourages residents to take advantage of these tax holidays to prepare. The state’s total tax relief this year amounts to approximately $439.6 million reflecting a strong commitment to addressing the challenges of the storm season.

These tax holidays not only offer immediate savings but also promote readiness for hurricanes. By removing sales tax on crucial supplies and work gear and the state facilitates access to necessary items helping residents stay safe as the peak of hurricane season nears. This strategy demonstrates Florida’s dedication to supporting its residents in preparing for severe weather.
