Tax Breaks and Land Ownership: What’s at Stake for Hopkins County?
According to ksstradio, The Hopkins County Commissioner’s Court is going to make a big decision. They will decide if Sligsol, LLC can get a special deal on taxes for their new solar farm. The farm is very big and will cost $108 million to build. If the deal is approved, the county will not get as much money from the project.
The deal says that Sligsol, LLC will pay a special fee instead of regular taxes. This fee is $2,153 for every megawatt of electricity the farm makes. That means the county will miss out on $350,000 in taxes in the first year. The deal is good for 10 years. But who owns the land where the farm will be built? Only one company, BK Hill Real Estate, LLC, owns the land. They own two big pieces of property that will be used for the solar farm.
