A former Russian employee, Robert Shonov, who worked at the United States consulate for 25 years was accused of gathering information about Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

What did Robert Shonov do against Russia?
SOURCE– Robert Shonov was a former worker at the US consulate in Vladivostok for 25 years was accused of gathering information about Russia’s actions in Ukraine. The Russia’s Federal Security Service, KGB successor, said that summonses have already served to question the two US diplomats who allegedly instructed Robert Shonov to collect information about special military operations and mobilization processes in Russian regions.
Robert Shonov’s arrest was first reported last May. The US State Department condemned Shonov’s arrest. Robert Shonov was charged under the new article of Russia’s law that criminalizes the cooperation on a confidential basis with a foreign state to assist their activities against Russia’s security. It will used to punish Russians who have foreign connections and will sentenced to more than 8 years in prison.
The State Dept. said, after the Russian government order last April 2021 required the dismissal of all local employees in United States diplomatic outposts in Russia, Robert Shonov worked at an organization that US contracted with to support its embassy in Moscow. According to the Russian News report, Robert Shonov was being held in Moscow’s Lefortovo prison.
