New Jersey to Forgive Over $100 Million in Medical Debt for Thousands of Residents
According to CBS News, in New Jersey, Governor Phil Murphy announced that thousands of families will have their medical debt forgiven. The state will erase over $61 million in debt for nearly 18,000 people who owe money to Prime Healthcare hospitals. Another 31,748 residents will see more than $38 million in debt forgiven from collections agencies.
This relief is part of a larger effort to make healthcare more affordable in New Jersey. Governor Murphy emphasized that people should focus on getting better when they’re sick, not worrying about medical bills. The state has partnered with Undue Medical Debt to help clear these debts.

How to Know If You Qualify for New Jersey’s Automatic Medical Debt Forgiveness
Families who qualify for this debt relief do not need to apply. If you qualify, you will get a letter in the mail from Undue Medical Debt starting the week of August 19. This is a one-time relief that will help many families get a fresh start.
