David Carpenter Arrested After Alleged Accidental Shooting of Father During Argument
According to True Crime News, in Burlington, Iowa, a family argument over personal hygiene took a shocking turn leading to the arrest of 48-year-old David Carpenter. On August 11 police were called to Carpenter’s residence on Monarch Drive after a report of a shooting. When officers arrived they found Carpenter’s father with a gunshot wound to the face. Although the injury was serious it was not life-threatening and the victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The incident unfolded in a home where tensions were high and what started as a simple dispute ended in a dramatic act of violence.
The argument that led to the shooting began over a comment about Carpenter’s “stinky feet.” According to the police affidavit the conversation quickly escalated into a heated argument between Carpenter and his father. During the quarrel Carpenter allegedly threatened to shoot his father. In a fit of anger Carpenter went to his room retrieved a gun and fired it towards his father. Carpenter claimed that the gun went off accidentally but the outcome was severe and left his father injured.
