According to True Crime News, federal officials made a huge drug bust last week when they found over 2,500 pounds of crystal meth hidden in a truck at the Atlanta State Farmers Market. On August 8, 2024, DEA agents discovered the crystal meth packed among boxes of celery in the truck. This is the largest drug seizure ever for the DEA Atlanta Division, with the drugs valued at $3.2 million.

Truck Driver Arrested in Massive Drug Bust: Crystal Meth Smuggled from Mexico to Atlanta Farmers Market
The truck driver, Jesus Martinez Martinez, was arrested. The crystal meth had been smuggled from Mexico and was meant for distribution far from the border. DEA Special Agent Robert Murphy said the amount of drugs and the distance they were shipped showed the boldness of the cartel behind the operation. The Georgia Department of Agriculture confirmed that the celery was thrown away to avoid any risk of contamination. Commissioner Tyler Harper stressed the need to keep the farmers market safe, as it is a major produce hub in the U.S.
