According to Marca, Hurricane Debby caused severe damage across the southeastern United States, impacting South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina in early August 2024. The storm led to extensive property damage and significant loss of life, prompting the IRS to offer assistance.
To aid those affected, the IRS has extended tax filing and payment deadlines. Residents and businesses in the impacted areas now have until February 3, 2025, to meet their tax obligations. This new deadline covers tax payments originally due between August 1 and August 4 in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina, and until August 5 in North Carolina.

IRS Provides Tax Relief and Extended Filing Deadlines for Hurricane Debby Victims
Eligible taxpayers can find the list of affected areas on the IRS Disaster Tax Relief page. Those with uninsured disaster-related losses can apply for tax relief on their 2024 returns, with an extended filing period until October 15, 2024. The relief also covers any new counties added to the disaster area by FEMA.
