According to El Paso Matters, in El Paso saw a noticeable increase in crime even though many other places in the U.S. were experiencing a drop in crime rates.

Car Thefts Surge Over 50% in El Paso, Driven by Social Media Trends
Car thefts in El Paso jumped by more than 50%, partly because social media trends show how certain cars, especially KIA and Hyundai models, could be easily stolen.
El Paso Sees Significant Increase in Violent Crimes, Including Murders and Robberies
Violent crimes, including murder, robbery, and assault, also rose. The number of murders in El Paso increased by 50%, with 33 cases reported.
Rape Cases Decrease in El Paso Amid Overall Crime Surge
Interestingly, the only violent crime that decreased was rape which saw a 15% drop. Chief Pacillas wasn’t sure why this happened but stressed the importance of support programs for victims.
