According to True Crime News, nearly a year after the heartbreaking death of her 2-month-old son, a Houston mother has been arrested and charged with murder. On August 8, 2023, police responded to a call about an unresponsive baby, Ethan Rosa Deras, who had been left in a hot car for about three hours. Despite efforts to revive him, Ethan was pronounced dead at the hospital, with his body temperature reaching a deadly 108 degrees. The death was ruled a homicide, leading to an investigation by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities believe the child’s mother, 22-year-old Gabriela Elizabeth Deras, left Ethan in the car while she took another child to a health clinic. During the investigation, she reportedly gave different versions of what happened, initially saying the baby was with his grandmother and the air conditioner was on. After gathering all the evidence, police arrested Deras on August 2, 2024, and charged her with murder. This tragic case underscores the dangers of leaving children in hot cars, especially during Houston’s scorching summer temperatures.
