Fugitive Caught After 30 Years on the Run Due to Missing Bike Reflector
Police Identify 71-Year-Old Fugitive After Traffic Stop in West Des Moines
According to True Crime News, a man who had been hiding for 30 years was caught in West Des Moines, Iowa, after being stopped for not having a bike reflector. On June 26, a police officer pulled over 71-year-old George Hartleroad, who said his name was Gregory Stallins. George Hartleroad claimed he didn’t have a driver’s license and hadn’t had one for many years. The officer took his information and let him go, but later found out that the name George Hartleroad gave belonged to a dead person. The police quickly found George Hartleroad again and revealed his true identity.

Fugitive Caught After 30 Years: Escaped Convict Arrested in Iowa, Returned to Wisconsin
George Hartleroad had been on the run since 1995 after escaping from a halfway house in Madison, Wisconsin. He was originally convicted in 1983 for false imprisonment, endangering safety, and possessing a short-barreled rifle after he held a woman at knifepoint, sexually assaulted her, and tied her to a tree. Despite avoiding law enforcement for 30 years, George Hartleroad was finally caught and has been sent back to Wisconsin, where he is now in custody at the Dane County Jail.
