Chad Doerman, a 33-year-old from Cincinnati was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on August 2, 2024. He admitted to murdering his three young sons which led to a plea deal that spared him from the death penalty but ensured he would spend the rest of his life behind bars. The tragic shootings occurred on June 15, 2023, when Doerman killed his 7-year-old son Clayton, 4-year-old Hunter, and 3-year-old Chase at their home. Clermont County Prosecutor Mark Tekulve confirmed that Doerman will remain imprisoned for life.
The tragedy began when Doerman is suffering from severe mental illness, took a .22 caliber rifle and began shooting his children. Despite his wife Laura’s efforts to protect them and the boys were killed outside, and Laura was wounded in her hand. The violence erupted after Doerman appearing disturbed walked around with a Bible before retrieving the firearm. Laura and the children attempted to flee but Doerman pursued them and killing the boys and leaving their bodies in the yard, according to the report of True Crime News.
A Tragic Case of Extreme Cruelty
In court, both Laura Doerman and her stepdaughter expressed their profound grief. Laura spoke about the immense joy her children brought to her life and the overwhelming emptiness their deaths have caused. Her stepdaughter also conveyed her sorrow and the deep sense of loss. Prosecutor David Gast described the crime as one of the most extreme examples of cruelty emphasizing the profound effect it has had on both the family and the community.
