Round Rock Uses Federal Funds to Help Low-Income Families Fix Homes Through Home Repair Program
According to Kxan, the City of Round Rock is using nearly a third of its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) money to help fix homes for low and moderate-income families. This year, Round Rock will get $642,233 from the federal government. The Home Repair program will use $177,453 of this money to help families fix important issues in their homes, like plumbing, electrical work, and heating systems.
Joe Brehm, who leads the Community and Neighborhood Services Department, says the program really helps people. For example, Alicia De La Cruz, who has lived in Round Rock for 42 years, got a new roof through the program. Her old roof was leaking, and she couldn’t afford to fix it. The program paid for her new roof, which would have cost $8,000. The Home Repair program can pay for projects up to $25,000 per household.

Round Rock Prioritizes Home Repair Aid for Low-Income Families Through Community Development Block Grant Program
The program first helps families who earn 30% or less of the area’s median income. Next, it helps those who earn 50% or less, and finally, those who earn 80% or less. This way, the most needy families get help first. To learn more about the program and see if you qualify, you can visit the City of Round Rock’s website.
