Apple has started sending payments to users affected by its butterfly MacBook keyboards after a lawsuit was filed in 2018. Reports like one from 9to5Mac’s Michael Burkhardt show that settlement checks are arriving. Depending on how many repairs were needed some MacBook owners could get up to $395. The lawsuit settled for $50 million, was due to issues with the keyboard like sticky keys and problems with debris. Even though Apple didn’t admit to any wrongdoing and they agreed to pay to settle the case, according to the report of EN Gadget.
Offers Compensation to Affected Customers
The butterfly keyboard introduced in 2015, soon became known for its problems. By 2019, Apple began to stop using the design. The lawsuit said Apple knew about the defects but didn’t tell customers. Payments from the settlement vary: people who had two or more topcase replacements might get between $300-$395 and those with one topcase replacement could get up to $125, and those with keycap replacements might get up to $50. This settlement is for customers in certain states who filed their claims on time.
