New York State’s Empire State Child Credit Initiative
The state has set aside $350 million for this initiative meant to help families this year. Future payments will depend on the next state budget. State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said this plan helps families deal with financial pressures. She noted that while there has been talk about adjusting the credit for inflation and no changes have been made yet. She emphasized the need for the government to help families with the high cost of raising children.
To qualify for the Empire State child credit, families must live in New York full-time or be married to a New York resident and meet specific income limits. Families who did not get a federal child tax credit may still qualify if their income is within the limits: $110,000 or less for married couples filing jointly $75,000 or less for single parents and $55,000 or less for those married filing separately. This initiative is aimed at giving New York families the support they need to manage the costs of raising children.
