In Minneapolis nearly a year after a tragic incident where Annalee Wright was fatally struck by a car while saving her children.
Mother Sacrifices Herself to Save Her Children, Driver Charged with Manslaughter
In Minneapolis, a sad incident happened on September 22, 2023, when 36-year-old Annalee Wright was hit by a car while crossing Lake Street with her two children. Annalee and her kids were crossing the street on a green light when Duaale Abdirasaq Hirsi, 23 ran a red light and hit her. Annalee pushed her children out of the way before she was hit, but her 14-year-old child was still sideswiped and got a broken arm and bruises. Annalee died three days later in the hospital from her injuries.
People who saw the crash and video footage from the area showed what happened. A person on a bus nearby saw Hirsi’s car speed through the red light and hit Annalee. Another driver said Hirsi was driving aggressively, sped past her, and ran the red light without stopping or braking before hitting Annalee. The video footage confirmed that Hirsi did not stop at the red light and did not brake before the crash, according to the report of Fox 9.
Driver Charged with Homicide and Assault After Fatal Accident
Almost a year later, Hirsi has been charged with causing Annalee’s death and injuring her child with his car. He stayed at the scene right after the crash but gave mixed statements about the traffic light’s color to the police, though he admitted to speeding. An arrest warrant is out for Hirsi as the legal process begins to hold him responsible for the tragic loss of Annalee and the injuries to her child.
