New Mexico is extending SNAP benefits to allow hot food purchases for 30 more days and expanding Disaster SNAP benefits to help residents in Rio Arriba and San Juan counties affected by wildfires and floods.

New Mexico Extends SNAP Hot Food Benefits and Expands Disaster Assistance for Flood and Fire Victims

According to KRQE, New Mexico is extending SNAP benefits for people who have been hit hard by wildfires and floods. They now have an extra 30 days, until August 25, to use their benefits to buy hot, ready-to-eat meals from authorized stores. This extension helps families get convenient meals while they recover, but it does not apply to restaurants.

The state is also expanding Disaster SNAP benefits to help people in Rio Arriba and San Juan counties. Residents who have been affected can apply for these benefits from August 12 to 19 at local offices or by phone if they can’t visit in person. This program will give them one-month extra extra help to buy groceries.

SNAP Households in New Mexico to Receive Additional Benefits to Maximize Monthly Allotment During Disaster Relief

SNAP households in these areas who don’t already get the maximum amount will get extra benefits for one month to reach the full monthly amount. To apply, people need to confirm their identity and provide details about their income and disaster-related expenses.
