New York Families to Receive Extra Payments for Children
Starting Monday, New York families with children will get extra payments from the state to add to their Empire State Child Credit. Governor Kathy Hochul announced a $350 million program that will send checks of up to $330 per child to over 1 million eligible families. The payments will be sent out by the end of August and are meant to increase the credits families have already received on their taxes this year.

New York State Boosts Support for Working Families with Empire State Child Credit
According to the report of Democrat & Chronicle, Families who got at least a $100 credit through the Empire State Child Credit will automatically get the extra payments. No separate application is needed. This credit is available to parents with low to moderate incomes, up to $110,000 for couples and $75,000 for single people. It is calculated as either 33% of the federal child tax credit or $100 per child whichever is higher.
The extra payments will vary based on income. Families making more than $50,000 will get 25% of their state credit, while those making less than $10,000 will receive the full 100%. This new program builds on a similar effort from 2022 and shows the state’s commitment to helping working families, according to Governor Hochul.
