According to AZ Mirror, a new study shows that undocumented immigrants paid nearly $100 billion in taxes in 2022, including federal, state, and local taxes. This large tax payment contradicts the idea that undocumented immigrants hurt social programs. Many of these immigrants pay taxes but can’t use the services their taxes fund, like Medicare and Social Security.

The study also found that undocumented immigrants often pay higher tax rates than some of the richest people in their states. For example, in Florida, they pay 8% in taxes, while the top 1% pay just 2.7%. This means undocumented workers are contributing more to public services than those with higher incomes.
