New Orleans Expands Guaranteed Income Program to Support Up to 800 High School Students
According to the report in Newsweek, New Orleans is launching a $1 million program to give financial help to up to 800 high school students over the next three years. This guaranteed income program, funded by federal money, is an extension of a smaller pilot project from April 2022 to March 2023. In the pilot, 125 young people received $350 each month to help with their needs, such as education and job opportunities.
The new guaranteed income program will provide around $417 per year to each student. This is less than the monthly payments from the pilot due to the limited funds. The goal is to support students who might be struggling with school or finding work.
