Orlando Tobar and Jorge Rafael Medina-Reyes have been sentenced for their roles in the kidnapping and murder of Nicole Solorio-Romero.
Double Life Sentence for Two Men Involved in Grisly Murder of Nicole Solorio-Romero
In a case that has deeply shaken the community and two men have been sentenced for their roles in the kidnapping and murder of Nicole Solorio-Romero. On July 25, the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office revealed that Orlando Tobar will serve 30 years to life in prison while Jorge Rafael Medina-Reyes has been sentenced to 15 years to life. Both men had pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping following the gruesome events of February 6, 2021.
Prosecutors reported that Medina-Reyes and Tobar forcibly took Solorio-Romero from her home and drove her to a house in West Valley City. Inside the residence, Tobar threatened her with a knife and Medina-Reyes shot her in the head. Tobar then fired another shot. The murder occurred with multiple witnesses present. Afterward, Tobar and another defendant, Cristian Morales wrapped Solorio-Romero’s body in plastic and left it by the side of a road in Tooele County, according to the report of True Crime Daily.
“Disturbing” Case Leaves Community Shaken
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill called the case one of the most disturbing he has seen in his 30 years of practice. While Tobar and Medina-Reyes have been sentenced, the case remains open with three more individuals still facing charges. The crime has had a significant impact on the community, highlighting the tragic loss of Solorio-Romero’s life.
