3,800+ Applications Pour In as Greene County Simplifies Senior Property Tax Freeze Process – Expanding Eligibility to All Seniors Aged 62+!

Greene County Expands Senior Property Tax Freeze to All Residents Aged 62 and Older, Simplifies Application Process

According to the report of Springfield News-Leader, the Greene County Commission has updated the senior property tax freeze rules to make it easier for more people to get help. Starting this year, anyone in Greene County who is 62 or older can apply for the tax freeze, no matter if they receive Social Security. This change aims to simplify the process for both applicants and county workers.

Before this update, only seniors who got Social Security could apply, which left out retirees from other jobs like teaching. The new law, Senate Bill 756, now includes any home improvements in the frozen tax amount and sets the base year as the year you apply, not 2024. This means seniors won’t see the tax credit on their bills until next year.
