According to The Columbus Dispatch, Ohio’s tax-free shopping period is getting longer this year, running from July 30 to August 8. During these 10 days, people can buy things like clothes and electronics without paying sales tax, as long as each item costs $500 or less. This also applies to online purchases, even if the items are delivered later, but excludes big items like cars and boats, and items like alcohol.

In Central Ohio, where tax rates vary from 6.75% to 8%, residents can save money on everyday items during the tax holiday. Places like Franklin County have a 7.5% tax rate, while Delaware County’s rate is 7%. This year, the holiday also covers meals at restaurants, except for alcoholic drinks, which still have taxes.
