Americans have until today to claim payments ranging up to $2,500 from a settlement with Discover Bank, following a lawsuit over alleged discrimination against DACA recipients applying for loans.
Americans Urged to Act Fast for Up to $2,500 in Discover Bank Settlement for Alleged DACA Loan Discrimination
According to The US Sun, Americans have only a few hours left to get up to $2,500 from a settlement with Discover Bank, according to Common Dreams. This settlement comes after a lawsuit where Discover Bank was accused of treating DACA recipients unfairly when they applied for loans. The lawsuit said Discover only accepted their applications if a U.S. citizen or permanent resident cosigned. This was seen as breaking civil rights laws and making it harder for DACA recipients to get loans.
To qualify for the settlement, you must have valid DACA status and have applied for a loan with Discover Bank between July 22, 2018, and February 29, 2024. You also need to have been denied the loan or only accepted if someone else cosigned for you during that time. Those in California could get up to $2,500, while others could get up to $250. The amount you get might change depending on how many people file claims, but no one will get more than $16,000.
