Boys & Girls Club in North Port Secures Funding to Rebuild After Hurricane Devastation
According to the Herald-Tribune, the Boys & Girls Club in North Port, Florida, is getting ready to build a new facility after receiving important funding to replace the club destroyed by Hurricane Ian. They secured a $1.7 million loan through the federal New Market Tax Credits Program and a $4 million grant from Sarasota County. These, along with significant donations, like $1 million from Steven Townsend, will help cover the $9 million cost.
Since Hurricane Ian, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties have been operating out of temporary spaces, serving about 240 children this summer. Construction on the new 14,000-square-foot building is set to start in early fall, allowing the club to provide a better place for local kids.
