High School Seniors in LA Receive $300K in Scholarships to Pursue Higher Education

According to ABC 7, high school seniors from low-income public housing in Los Angeles celebrated receiving over $300,000 in scholarships at the California Science Center. The scholarships, given by Build Hope Incorporated and the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA), are meant to help students continue their education after high school. Eva Mendoza, one of the scholarship winners, felt supported in her goal to work in aerospace, thanks to the scholarship.

This program has been running for 12 years and focuses on students from HACLA‘s public housing and those in the Section 8 Program. It helps students with financial aid as they pursue their educational goals. Since starting in August 2020, the program has expanded to include all nine campuses of the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), providing more opportunities for students across Los Angeles.
