Street Racers Arrested in Connection With Death Of A Man In Phoenix
Two street racers arrested in connection with the early August death of a man in Phoenix who was hit by a car. The accused were street racing, according to the police, before the fatal collision.
The two street racers arrested, Deandre Henry and Nathanial Meeks, reportedly hit a pedestrian on the sidewalk after going over some train tracks while competing at speeds of above 80 mph. On August 7, 2023, the collision occurred in Phoenix, close to 35th Avenue and Washington Street.
At about 8:45 a.m. Police were called to an accident on August 7th near 35th Avenue and Washington Street, where they discovered Pedro Rodriguez on the ground suffering from several wounds. He passed away at the site, but the car’s driver stayed.
Details On How the Street Racers Got Arrested
Rodriguez was murdered during a street race between two vehicles, according to court documents that Arizona’s Family was able to obtain. One of the street racers arrested, Deandre Shakur Henry, 22, was operating a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche that was being raced by the other street racers arrested, Nathaniel James Meeks, who was operating a black Chrysler 300. The two were allegedly moving quickly north on 35th Avenue from Lincoln Street when Henry, who was allegedly traveling at a speed of over 80 mph, allegedly collided with some railroad tracks.
According to the records, Henry was unable to maintain control and veered onto the sidewalk, where the pedestrian was struck and killed. The Chrysler then reversed and hit the Chevrolet as it re-entered the road. Henry apparently subsequently parked his car at a nearby business and returned to the location after the pickup truck had reportedly left.
Henry was taken into custody on August 22, whilst Meeks was placed in jail on August 11. Both of the two street racers arrested were accused of second-degree murder.
