North Olmsted Mourns After Random Giant Eagle Stabbing of 3-Year-Old Julian Wood

Bionca Ellis, a 32-year-old woman, is accused of Giant Eagle stabbing and killing 3-year-old Julian Wood and hurting his mother. This happened on a Monday afternoon. Before the Giant Eagle stabbing, Ellis had been in contact with the police but had never been violent before. She was arrested a few days earlier for an outstanding warrant but was released from custody. After her release, she went to the Giant Eagle plaza, took two knives from a thrift store, and then attacked the family in the parking lot.

Community Rallies with Memorial and Fundraiser After Tragic Giant Eagle Stabbing
Police released footage showing Ellis’s arrest just days before the Giant Eagle stabbing. She was seen using a wheelchair and pulling a suitcase when the police approached her. Ellis cooperated calmly with the officers, even offering to get up when they detained her. After she was released, she went back to the police station to ask about her belongings. When she couldn’t get answers, she walked to the Giant Eagle plaza nearby, where she stole the knives and then attacked Julian and his mother outside the store. Detective Sgt. Matt Beck said there were no signs of violence in Ellis’s past, making this Giant Eagle stabbing seem completely random and without any clear reason. The community is deeply saddened and has come together to support Julian’s family. People have been leaving toys, flowers, and other items at a growing memorial in the parking lot where the Giant Eagle stabbing happened. An online fundraiser has also raised over $190,000 to help the family. Ellis is now in jail with a $1 million bond and is set to appear in court on June 10. The community hopes for justice for Julian and healing for his family during this very difficult time.
