Former Mayor Jay Ostrem Arrested for Triple Murder in South Dakota
Victim’s Call Leads to Arrest of Ex-Councilman Jay Ostrem for Fatal Shooting
According to the published article in True Crime Daily, Jay Ostrem, a 64-year-old former mayor and city councilman, was arrested for allegedly shooting three people to death in South Dakota. The Attorney General’s Office said he is charged with three counts of first-degree murder for the killings that happened on the night of May 27. One of the victims, Zach Frankus, called the police to report his brother Paul had been shot. Zach said the shooter came back and shot him too, but he stopped responding to dispatch soon after.

Wildlife Officer’s Intervention Leads to Arrest of Jay Ostrem for Triple Murder
A wildlife officer saw Jay Ostrem leaving the Frankus home and told him to get on the ground. Jay Ostrem initially resisted but eventually obeyed. He was armed with a handgun and a rifle, smelled like alcohol, and had a bleeding hand. Inside the house, police found the bodies of Zach and Paul Frankus and 25-year-old Timothy Richmond. Court documents say Jay Ostrem’s wife told police that Paul Frankus had made unwanted advances toward her a few days earlier, and she told her husband on the day of the shootings. Jay Ostrem, who was the mayor of Centerville in 2010 and had settled a past sexual harassment lawsuit, is now in jail with a bond set at $1 million cash.
