According to the published article in the Chicago Sun-Times, on Saturday, Illinois lawmakers made progress on two important healthcare reforms but did not finalize three key budget bills. The ongoing negotiations and behind-the-scenes disagreements have delayed a final decision on the budget.
Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch announced that while the House and Senate are close to an agreement no votes will take place until next week. To allow lawmakers and staff to rest and spend time with their families over the holiday weekend the decision was made to adjourn until after the break.

Lawmakers to Reconvene Next Week to Finalize and Vote on Crucial Budget Measures
Furthermore, Welch emphasized that the earliest possible time for an agreement to pass both chambers would be next week. The lawmakers are expected to return then to finalize and vote on the crucial budget measures.
