According to the published article of The US Sun, Americans have just hours left to claim money from a $7 million data breach settlement involving Med-Data, a company used by hospitals for billing and Medicaid services. The lawsuit claims that an employee shared patient information on GitHub from December 2018 to September 2019. Eligible class members can get up to $5,000 for documented losses due to the data breach, like fraud, or up to $500 for actions like changing passwords or monitoring credit.
To get the data breach payment, class members must submit their claim forms by May 21, 2024. The data breach settlement also provides three years of health data and fraud monitoring for all class members. Med-Data agreed to pay the $7 million but did not admit to doing anything wrong. The final approval hearing is on September 11, 2024, and the deadline to object or opt out was April 26, 2024.
