According to the published article in True Crime Daily, in a sad case from Ojai, California, a 28-year-old man was sentenced to 18 years in prison for killing his friend with a sledgehammer in 2019. Cameron Lykins admitted to the brutal sledgehammer murder crime and other related charges. On May 12, 2019, Lykins attacked Houston Auer in his bedroom at his grandmother’s house. He then took Auer’s body and left it in the Angeles National Forest.

Wildlife Officer Discovers Body of Houston Auer – Leading to Arrest and Sentencing of Cameron Lykins
A month later, on June 23, 2019, a wildlife officer found Auer’s decomposed body. Lykins was arrested at his mother’s home in Lone Pine. At his sentencing, Lykins said, “I killed Houston Auer, and I accept full responsibility.” But the prosecutor, Christopher Harman argued that Lykins had hit Auer multiple times, even though Lykins claimed the fight lasted only a minute. During the hearing, Auer’s family spoke about how much they miss him. His mother and uncle shared how hard his death had been for them. This brutal sledgehammer murder case shows the terrible results of violent actions and the serious consequences for those who commit them.
